TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Category: Agricultural remedy

Description: Biological insecticide for the control of American bollworm larvae (Helicoverpa armigera) on crops as specified.

Mode of action: BETA-BAK becomes systemic in the plant after seed or foliar application. The endotoxin crystals are produced inside or on the plant tissue where it will be consumed by larvae as soon as they hatch. Larvae stops eating within 48 h and die as a result of the leaking of gut fluids.

Special attributes: BETA-BAK has a long persistence on plants, at least three weeks.

What makes this product unique? Unique set of cry genes. Whole genome sequencing revealed five different insecticidal crystal genes. These genes include cry1Ac, cry1Ea, cry1Ia, cry2Aa, and cry2Ab. Unique genes are important to prevent the build-up of resistance.

Registration as Agricultural Remedy: Reg. no. L10973 (Act 36 of 1947).

Crops registered for: Citrus

Organic certification: CERES

Notes on application: For best results the product should be applied on seed at plant and followed up by a foliar spray as a preventative application. The bacteria should colonize the plant before the pest is encountered.
